Hello everyone! Back in my craft room this weekend after a long week at work. I started working every other Saturday morning in clinic since the start of the new year. Our patients do appreciate the weekend hours. Working on Saturdays does cut my weekend short but still find time to do fun stuff - like crafting :)
Anyway, with Father's Day coming up in a couple weeks, I thought I would get started on cards for my father and my father-in-law. Through the years, my father has always been very supportive of me, especially through tough times. Only get to see him about twice a year now as we don't live close by.
My father in law is pretty cool too :) I respect him greatly and how he has raised his children practically by himself. He has taught my husband great life lessons through the years which my husband still lives by and follows.
What better way to celebrate these great men but to make them each a personal card!
I wanted to use my "Father's Day" Cricut cartridge as I bought it last year for this purpose. Now I have a chance to use it and I am so excited! For those of you who know me well (my fellow Willowbrook MDs) - I love my Cricut! I have not used it in a while though or let's just say not as often. There are so many mediums that I have picked up in scrapbooking/card making. I have also enjoyed stamping and using other die cuts, so sometimes I ignore my poor Cricut. I started out with the original Cricut and now my collection has expanded to the Cricut Imagine and the new Cricut Expression. My husband thinks I am crazy!
For my patterned paper choices, I went with Echo Park's This and That "Charming" collection and Studio Calico's "Classic Calico V.2 paper pad.
Since I am making masculine cards, I knew that I had to keep it simple. I only used my Cricut for the die cuts and sentiments. No stamps were used in making these cards.
For my father's card, I chose the recliner die cut. Growing up, I remember sitting in his recliner watching TV in the evening after a long day at work.
I used PTI Kraft card stock for the card base on both cards. I really like using Kraft card stock - it is a great neutral color.
Father's Day Card #1 finished:
My husband helped me pick out the die cut for my father in law's card. He is pretty handy and loves working with tools, so the obvious choice was the tool box die cut in the cartridge.
The "Yardsticks" patterned paper in the This and That collection was the perfect background choice for this card - worked great with the "handyman" theme for the card.
Father's Day card #2 finished:
Again these cards are pretty simple but I think they work great for our dads. Simple men with big hearts :)
Terry and I love you both very much and thank you both for being GREAT dads!
Hope you enjoyed this week's project. Have a great week everyone!
Ana
