Hello Card - Basic Grey Konnichiwa

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a great Memorial Day Weekend! I love 3 day weekends! and the short week that follows :)

I actually caught up with my clinic notes and lab letters and had extra time today to work on a new card. I was planning on posting the Mother's Day cards that I made for my mom and my aunt in Mexico since they are already done. Still have not sent them though :(
Will post them soon.

I used Basic Grey's collection "Konnichiwa" and one of my favorite Lawn Fawn stamp sets "Lunar Lights".

I ordered 2 patterned papers from this collection about 2 months ago. I thought they would work great on a layout I need to do using my cherry blossom pictures from our Washington DC trip last year. I fell in love with the patterns and ended up ordering the entire 12x12 collection pack.
The papers in this collections are beautiful and the colors are so vivid.

I picked a few patterned papers from the collection as my inspiration. I then chose Melon Berry card stock from Papertrey Ink as my card base. It went really well with the colors on the patterned papers.

Decided to do some embossing on my card with my Cuttlebug. Just bought the "Oriental weave" embossing folder set about a month ago. My favorite embossing folder in the set is the one with the lanterns. I picked the one with the oriental patterned background because I was already planning on cutting small lanterns using my stamp set.

Here is a picture of supplies used:

I cut my Melon Berry cardstock using my Fiskars paper trimmer to 6 1/4 x 9 inches. The next step was scoring the card at the 4 1/2 inch mark. I did this using my Martha Stewart score board. The finished card measurements were 4 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches after scoring.

Next I embossed my vanilla colored cardstock (The Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby) using my Cuttlebug and embossing folder.

I stamped images onto patterned paper using the small Chinese lantern stamps in Lawn Fawn's "Lunar Lights" stamp set. After stamping, I cut the lantern shapes out. When I cut the paper,  I noted small strips on the bottom of the patterned paper pages that already had a scallop edge. I decided at the last minute to cut the scalloped edges and add them to my card base to coordinate with my little lantern shapes.

Now ready to put the card together :) I first adhered the vanilla colored embossed paper over the central top area of the card base. I attached the strips of patterned paper over the bottom of the card. I aligned the edges a little different than I usually do and placed the scalloped edges facing each other.

I stamped the line where the lanterns hang from. Then using foam dots, I adhered my lanterns across the embossed paper. This technique makes the images really pop out and look great!

This is what my card looks like so far:

I was going to add my sentiment on the lower right side of the card as I usually do, but I decided to go with a different idea. Along with the Konnichiwa paper collection is a sheet of stickers that coordinates with the patterned papers. There is a super cute sticker of a Japanese geisha girl that I just had to use! I wanted it to pop up against my card, so I used my EK success powder tool to undo the adhesive on the back of the sticker and adhered with foam dots.

For my sentiment I went with Studio Calico's "Hooray" stamp set using the "Hello" sentiment. I used the PTI limitless layers circle dies to make the background for the sentiment. I thought this would be cute because it looked more like a flower and matched the theme well. I adhered it to the upper left side of the card, which fit perfectly.

This is what my finished card looks like:

I really enjoyed making this card. Love the vibrant colors!

Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoyed my card. Stop by next week for another creation. Have a great week everyone!

Ana
